A Quiet Night in has been putting on concerts of quiet contemporary music in Exeter since 2014. Join them for an evening that explores the creative possibilities of close listening, quiet and silence. Pay what you decide, on the door.
A panel of scientists, academics and artists (including Longplayer artist Jem Finer) meet to consider creative responses to space, time, society and environment: matters with scale greater than a human lifetime. Hosted by artist and curator Alex Murdin.
Internationally exhibited and acclaimed sculptor Peter Randall-Page RA Elect brings Geometry of Desire IV to St Martin’s Church. Carved sinuously from Rossi Luanda marble and mounted on an oak stand, the sculpture evokes universal organic forms, at the same time pleasing and atavistic.
By adjusting the variables that control Longplayer, new compositions can be created that might last only a very short time. Composer-curator Emma Welton, with musicians from the University of Exeter, realises one of these compositions in a live setting. Followed by Longplayer artist Jem Finer in conversation with sound artist and broadcaster Alice Armstrong.
